Dr Balakrishnar Manivannan MB,BS (Honours), FRCP (London) – Consultant Physician and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer.

Dr Manivannan is an experienced and empathic Consultant Physician specialising in the full spectrum of older age medicine and osteoporosis.

He consults on the basis of a sensible, comprehensive and detailed approach. Treatment recommendations are made, taking into account patient preferences.

He has received many years of excellent feedback from patients, families and referring General Practitioners.

Dr Manivannan has 13+ years of experience as a Consultant Physician in the NHS, and also for the same length of time in the private sector.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He is also a Honorary Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oxford. He has trained and mentored numerous batches of undergraduates and postgraduates. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians for the MRCP Part 2 Examination for many years and including having been the Chair. He is an appraiser for senior doctors. He has been awarded multiple Clinical excellence awards (CEA awards) in the National Health Service for excellence in clinical care and medical leadership.

He received many distinctions and prizes at school and university. He was awarded the only Distinction in Medicine in his graduating class. He was also conferred the Gold Medal in Medicine and the Gold Medal in Clinical Medicine at the final MBBS examination in 1995.

Dr Manivannan has a special interest and expertise in the diagnosis and management of Osteoporosis and related bone health problems. He was instrumental in establishing the Fracture Liaison and Osteoporosis service at his NHS hospital. Dr Manivannan conducts regular teaching sessions for undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. He has been rated by many cohorts of students (in independently collated feedback) as an outstanding clinical teacher. He holds honorary academic appointments as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oxford.

He is confident speaking to large and small audiences, and particularly enjoys delivering interactive medical education sessions.
